This wasn’t a horror story as much as it was endorw and creepy though there were some horrific elements scattered throughout, and a fair amount of bloodbut I was a little surprised at a handful of instances of almost seemingly anachronistic sensuality.
No matter werewklf this book is a true example of high-quality literary fiction. Horror fiction ; Historical fiction. Even so, like Endore’s fiction Legend of the Werewolf is sensitive to the hardships of the working classes and other victims human and non-human of social hierarchy.

There are first those that have two bodies and only one soul. It covers mans animal nature in matters of sexual craving, religious piety, man faced with starvation and captivity, the murderous insanity of war and politics, and at the end of the book the highly educated swindler Doctor Dumas and his orderlies at the asylum.
Like any classic werewolf book this is unfortunately not so much a story of someone that turns into a wolf under a full moon and goes around eating people, but is a story of the nature of man and his battle between civility and his desire for lust and murder. This is also one of the books that dumbfounds me by the fact it isn’t more popularly known. Set in France in the late 19th Century, this tries to be for werewolves what Dracula is to vampires, filled with lots of werewolf lore.

Early in the novel a sort of origin story is given, describing the long standing feud between two families in the Rhone-Alpes region of France, Qerewolf and Pitamont, ruthlessly attacking each other generation after generation.

The Werewolf of Paris 17 8 Oct 24, It’s sexually deviant from the onset, twisted and perverse, with surprisingly funny dark humor peppered throughout. As a werewolf novel, it is thoroughly satisfying, but as a historical novel, a philosophical novel, and a social commentary it is more than satisfying.
Bertrand in s Paris who was said to be a grave-despoiling werewolf, and that fact adds an additional frisson to this tale.

The book seems to be written in semi-clunky parts.

The Werewolf of Paris : A Novel
This novel was an interesting and engrossing read. As I mentioned, this tale contains its fair share of gore and grue, and some pretty terrible incidents are depicted. Man, the body with the erect spine, before which the horizontal spines of the animal world must grovel. Way too much of the material about the Paris Commune had nothing to do with the werewolf.
That goes for damn near all of the characters, not just Bertrand. His adopted uncle, Aymar Galliez, manages to keep his transformations at bay for many years by feeding Bertrand raw, bloody meat.
